Bone by Alison Milne

Alison Milne and her team have designed Bone rug to capture the small details in nature and combine them with fine art. This piece originated as an animal tusk that was professionally photographed, by artist Harley Valentine using a macro lens and various light sources. The photograph was then striped down, the colour was manipulated and modern accents were added. The result is a timeless weave of multiple layers and textures that reads similar to an abstract painting. Alison Milne Design is a Toronto based furniture and interior design firm that encourages their clients to live a healthy and comfortable lifestyle that starts with the space that they inhabit daily.

Calcatta by Fleur-De-Lis Interior Design

Using combinations of cut and loop piles, tonal blends of colour, and textural interplay of wool and silk, this understated organic rug design becomes a metamorphosis of carpet and stone, showcasing the veining, depth and beauty of Italian Calacatta marble.
Fleur-de-lis Interior Design was founded by partners Eric McClelland and Peter Lunney. The design emphasis of Fleur-de-lis is based upon creating interiors that allow the client’s tastes and personalities, in conjunction with the creative use of materials, to balance each other in timeless yet innovative designs.

Joy Charbonneau & Ed Zec

When our natural environment is recorded as data there is an image produced of natures quantitative self which we find quite inspiring. For this reason, we took the bathymetric information of Lake Ontario and focused on a detail of it resulting in a rug design. Joy aims to create intelligent architecture and design. She works with Kuwabara Payne McKenna Blumberg Architects, and frequently collaborates with Derek McLeod Design. JOYCHARBONNEAU.COM

Ed actively re-imagines built environments through research and design. He currently works with architectsAlliance in Toronto.

@Rug by Kenneth Ho

When designing the New @ge rug, I was inspired by the idea of how modern day communication technologies have become one of the dominant elements of living in the new era. In the design, the “@” symbol is used to represent the various communication methods such as e-mails and web sites, and the design is created by interconnecting the symbols, which was inspired by the idea of how people are connected with the use of such technologies. Kenneth Ho is a partner of BiglarKinyan Design Partnership Inc, a fresh and forward thinking design firm that specializes in creating extraordinary interiors.

Tartan by CLAYTON BUDD - 64TH AND

The concept for this rug design was to reinterpret the classic tartan—a symbol of history, family and unity—into something bold and graphic with an emphasis on scale and texture. 64TH AND QUEEN is a boutique-style design agency formed by principals Clayton Budd and Callum MacLachlan. 64TH AND QUEEN is an intersection of art and design, ideas and innovation, and a creative merging of production, retail, hospitality, graphic and web design disciplines.

Jazz by Roy Banse

The Jazzy Rug design is loosely based on the simple, but strong graphic pattern of an eye exam
chart. The succession of decreasing font sizes provides for an interesting configuration
with a sense of direction, rather than a predictable, repetitive pattern. The connection to music is a secondary element incorporated into the design, based on the ideal that most people enjoy listening to music of some form or another while relaxing at home. The substitution of numbers for letters add a further arousing element with each number chosen to replace letters based on a reference to shape or sound. Roy Banse, a self-taught designer, is the owner of innovative design firm, Roy Banse Design.

Ditdah by Atelier & Narea Kim

The Ditdah rug is a play on the character encoding of Morse code. The “dits and dahs”, traditionally found in Morse code, are replaced with solid white and bright orange dots to represent the letters, numerals, punctuation and special characters of a given message. The idea is that each rug would contain an encoded message. The rug comes with a set of solid walnut ‘S’ and ‘O’ playing pieces as the rug transforms into a giant playing surface, a nostalgic take on the pencil and paper game. Fishbol was established in 2005 by design-duo Elie Nehme and Mani Mani. This workshop specializes in original, innovative projects for architecture, interiors, event installations, furniture, object and fashion design.

Designer Narae Kim is a graduate of architecture and design from Carleton University.

Street wire by 3rd Uncle Design

Streetwire explores the rug as an object that defines space, and through its design evokes a
sense of place. It also explores the ability of the design to reverberate from flat graphic image to three-dimensional space. The rug can be physically approached from any side with the center providing the space for contemplation. 3rd UNCLE design is a multidisciplinary design studio. It’s principals, Arriz Hassam, Paul Syme and John Tong, have established a reputation based on creative approaches to space, objects and ideas.

Une Affaire De Coeur by Katherine Morley

Une Affaire De Coeur reflects upon the storied relationship between French and English speaking Canadians. Historically complex, powerful and, often divisive, the fleur-de-lis and maple leaf symbols interact harmoniously when woven into a pattern, despite, or perhaps because of, the volatile and undeniably passionate nature of their relationship. Katherine Morley is an industrial designer, working primarily in textiles and ceramics. A proud Canadian, she is continually searching out ways to elevate Canadian culture in the global arena.
